Lola Bag
This week I haven’t finished any new projects so I thought I’d share with you one of the projects that I’m currently working on – ithinksew’s Lola Bag.
I’ve already completed the exterior of the bag – which includes a gusseted front pocket. I actually found this step to be quite tricky because the pocket is attached through top stitching around the edge of the gusset. This makes it quite hard to get the pocket looking straight on the front of the bag. It’s also a challenge to get the gusset to sit properly. But I think it’s definitely worth the extra work!
I’ve also deviated slightly on the straps – the pattern uses faux leather straps but I’ve decided to use real leather instead. I try and source my supplies locally but I haven’t had much success with leather. Instead I order my leather straps through buckleguy.com. They are reasonably priced and they ship worldwide. In order to give the straps more support I’ve attached some rivets. I love the look of rivets – I think it gives the bag a real professional look.
I’ve installed the internal zipper pocket as the pattern instructs but also added my own internal slip pocket on the opposite side. I don’t think you can ever have too many pockets! The added pocket runs the width of the bag and I’ve divided this into three sections.
Hopefully I’ll have it completed in a couple of weeks and be able to show you the finished bag. I’d love to know what you guys are all working on at the moment!
