It’s all about texture!
My nan taught me how to sew when I was quite young – maybe 4 or 5? I was always interested in making things with my hands. Later in life I’ve become a confidant sewer – particularly when it comes to bags. So when my Nan turned 90 I decided to make her a Glam On The Go zipper Pouch!

This project is from a magazine I used to collect called ‘Making Magazine’. Unfortunately this magazine no longer exists which is a shame. It was always filled with lots of different craft projects including sewing, crocheting, knitting, and baking, to name a few. I have made projects from Making Magazine in the past; like the cute ‘Little Apron’.

Admittedly I only followed the instructions for ‘Glam On The Go’ loosely. This was for quite a few reasons. First; this project contains written instructions only. No graphics or pictures other than the finished product. And second; because I found the instructions quite confusing.

I also had to make modifications to the project based on the materials I used. For example I changed the size of the pouch because my ruler only has inches! I know, I know; it should have centimetres (being in Australia) but inches are the only option available. Also I included a strap because I thought my nan would like it.

Another change I made was using zipper by the metre instead of a dress zipper. This meant adding zipper tabs. It was a bit of extra work but I don’t mind because the rose gold looks amazing with the fabric. Plus I got to use one of my cute flower zipper pulls.

The one thing I was really hoping to achieve with my Nan’s Glam On The Go Pouch? To make it interesting texture wise! My Nan has bad eyesight so I wanted her to be able to feel the materials. That’s why I chose embroidered flower fabric for the exterior and satin for the lining.

Conclusion: The instructions for the Glam On The Go Pouch were really confusing. Probably didn’t help that I modified it beyond recognition. Normally a zipper pouch project is perfect for beginners. But I wouldn’t recommend this project to beginners… or maybe at all?
