Where did 2024 go?
There were many things that didn’t go to plan in 2024. Unfortunately my personal life had a huge impact on my creative life. So I was rather relieved to say goodbye to 2024. Now it’s time to wipe the slate clean and focus on my New Years ReSEWlutions 2025.
Although I might have felt I didn’t achieve the quantity of makes I wanted to last year, I can’t complain about the quality. I did make some lovely bags. Like my Dallas Duffels, which had been a work in progress for a couple of years. I was so pleased to have finally finished!
Another standout for 2024 was my Haralson Belt Bags. I had been eyeing this projects for ages so when the opportunity arose I grabbed it. The Haralson was the perfect gift for my mother-in-law. She absolutely loved it and got compliments everywhere she went.
Looking back at last year’s reSEWlutions, I did manage to achieve some of my goals. Like limiting my purchase of new fabrics. I only made a couple of visits to my local fabric store and that was always for fabric to make gifts. So I’m taking that as a win!
I also finished off one of the many tutorials I had been working on – the Drawstring Sunnies Case. I had a lot of fun making this tutorial so hopefully it’s on your To Do list. Plus it’s a great way to use up scrap fabric!
Unfortunately I didn’t hit some goals I set myself last year. I was very inconsistent with my posts on my website. And to be honest I wasn’t that much better with social media. So this year’s New Years ReSEWlutions 2025 might contain a few repeat goals.
New Years ReSEWlutions 2025
- Release a new sewing pattern – for sale in my Etsy Store.
- Continue writing posts for my website. I’m going to aim for 1 per month. This is so I can spend more time working on patterns/tutorials, as well as social media.
- Release a new tutorial on my website. I’m currently working on several – I just need to get them finished.
- Concentrate on building my presence on social media; particularly Instagram and Facebook. Create more reels & videos.
- Start up Pedlar Creative Sewing Circle again in 2025. This one might be more difficult going forward without Kelly. But I know she would want me to try.
- Finish projects before starting new ones. Try and reduce size of ‘To Do’ pile.
- Service/Fix both Sewing Machines (HD9 & Brother)
- Limit fabric buying. Try to only use fabric I’ve already purchased.
- Re-use and repurpose damaged tents and materials. This is part of my ongoing goal to be more environmental with zero waste.
And there are also a few projects that I would like to concentrate on for the year. To start with, I inherited some of Kelly’s projects that she wanted to make. Like the Penny Romper for my niece (Kelly’s granddaughter) and the Bulldog Patchwork (for a friend). I know Kelly would have loved for me to finish these for her so hopefully I do them justice.
I’m also starting work on a Crochet Fabric Rag Rug. This will be an ongoing project in the background because of how time consuming it is. First I’ll be cutting up huge amounts of scrap fabric to sew together to make the yarn. Then I need to reteach myself how to crochet before finally starting the rug. I’ll keep you updated along the way.
It’s always good to try and be realistic about New Years ReSEWlutions. Otherwise it can feel too overwhelming. I hope I’ve managed to walk the fine line of ambitious vs unrealistic. It’s certainly going to be quite the adventure so hopefully you’ll join me!
