I’m definitely in love…
If you’ve been reading my latest posts – you’ll have seen this bag before. It’s the Sunshine Crossbody Pouch that I made during my MS Mega Sew Challenge. I realised that I’ve done a lot of talking about the challenge and not so much about the bag. So this post is going to be all about the Sunshine Crossbody Pouch!
The Sunshine Crossbody is another fantastic pattern by Bagstock Designs. I’m a huge fan of her designs and always love the end result! If you haven’t tried one of her patterns I can highly recommend checking her website. There are a great range of patterns for sewers of all levels. Plus her patterns are easy to follow with plenty of pictures to help you along the way. The Sunshine Crossbody Pouch is aimed at beginners and best of all it’s free!
I did spend quite a bit of time choosing my fabrics for this project. Mainly because I knew it would be donated at the end of the challenge. So once I’d paired down the fabric options I decided to do a quick poll and this one came out on top. The main exterior fabric is ‘Banksia Grove’ in turquoise by Jocelyn Proust. Contrasting that with a Denim in dark indigo and a Prima Homespun cotton in silver. All together they just work so well!
Some things that might be worth noting if you plan to make your own Sunshine Crossbody Pouch. To start off with; this pattern has instructions for making either a pouch or a crossbody bag. I always find a crossbody bag more useful so I chose that option. But it does mean you need to source extra hardware and materials. Namrata also gives you instructions for 2 different ways of attaching your bag connectors. I decided the placement near the zipper looked smarter. But it also means you’ve got a lot of layers to sew through when topstitching next to the zipper. So I might change this next time and place the connectors on the side.
I wish I could tell you how user friendly the Sunshine Crossbody is but I can’t. This was the very first one I’ve made and it’s being donated. But I love this bag so much I’ve decided that I need one of my own. So a second bag with the same fabric is cut out and ready to go! Now I just need to get through the Christmas rush and find the time to make it. What I can tell you is that the size looks just about perfect for a small crossbody bag
Final thoughts? Wow – just Wow! I absolutely love how this bag turned out! The colours, textures, shape all sing together in harmony. And I really do think the flower zipper heads are the icing on the cake. Absolutely adorable. Now this bag (and another! 😊) are on their way to the UK – donated to help someone pay for their care package. I also raised $878 through my challenge to help people with MS. It’s so amazing how much joy and support one bag can bring!
