Foldover Pouch

Looking for a quick make?

I always love to have a few quick projects in my to-do pile. It’s a great way to take a break from some of my more complicated makes. This Foldover Pouch by Svetlana Sotak definitely fits the bill. Plus a great project if you’re a beginner bagineer!

If you’re not familiar with Svetlana Sotak – I can highly recommend her patterns. The Foldover Pouch is from her book ‘That Handmade Touch’. This is one of my favourite sewing books! It’s got a great range of projects; from bags to home decor. It even includes projects for your fur family – like the Catnip Fish. It’s very rare that I come across a sewing book where I want to make every project. That Handmade Touch is definitely the exception!

But my favourite thing about Svetlana’s book? Each pattern comes with extra instructions on how to customise them. The Foldover pouch comes with the option of adding a zip. Probably the only caveat I would make is to any newbies. Although the written instructions are clear and well explained. There isn’t always a photo for each step. So, if you are a visual learner you might find some projects harder than others.

Edward’s impressed!

The Foldover Pouch requires minimal materials. Some scrap fabric, interfacing, button and ribbon/cord. There is one thing to note and that is about interfacing. The project calls for medium weight interfacing – which I always associate with Pellon 809. But Svetlana actually means Pellon SF101. It’s explained in the notes at the start of the book but sometimes I forget to look there. So instead my Foldover Pouch is made with Pellon 809 – which I think works well.

I love how my Foldover Pouch turned out! Because I used extra firm interfacing – it stands up on it’s own. I’ve already decided that it’s going to be my new bag for carrying around my many different charging cables. Perfect for holidays or weekends away! Plus the Foldover Pouch is such a pleasure to make I can see myself making more of these. Maybe next time I’ll try it with a zip?
