Wool & Wax Tote

I think it’s quite fitting that my first post about a bag for 2020 is the Wool & Wax Tote by Noodlehead. This has to be one of my favourite bag patterns to sew and by my favourite designer. The Wool & Wax Tote is not only a great pattern to sew but the bag itself is just so useful and practical. So it wan’t a tough decision which bag I was going to make for my Christmas presents last year. The Wool & Wax Tote won hands down!

The Wool & Wax Tote pattern is very easy to follow and is definitely a great bag for beginner sewers. The instructions are all very clear and the pictures make it easy to follow. It doesn’t require any complicated steps like adding zips or zipper pockets. The pattern also doesn’t require a lot of different pieces and there are no curves – so it’s also very easy to cut out. There are options for adding rivets if you want but not essential. I’ve added them to mine because I already have all the tools for installing them and I think they always add a professional touch. Since I was making these totes for presents I also decided to use leather as my handle option. So stylish!

I ended up making several Wool & Wax Totes for relatives so I did use a range of different fabrics from my stash. I just love the fabrics made by Cloud 9 so I used various prints from their collection..  I’ve also used one of Sarah Golden’s fabrics – Maker Marker Village Blue. You should definitely check out her stuff on fabric.com. I also found a very pretty flower fabric on a trip to Spotlight. I decided that it would be perfect for a young girl’s bag so I decided to make a smaller Wool & Wax tote for my niece Paige. Like most bags it’s constructed out of various sized rectangles so I modified it by subtracting an inch off each piece. If you’ve got your maths correct it should all work out at the end.

The end verdict on the Wool & Wax Tote is clearly a big thumbs up. The pattern is simple but stylish and can be attempted by sewers at all levels. It’s easy to modify the size to whatever size you want. The bag itself is just so practical for everyday use. It fits everything you might possibly need when you go out. It’s also go such a variety of uses! My mum uses her’s for her daily shopping trips and my mother-in-law uses hers for a beach bag. What can I say? This bag is just awesome!
