Now just waiting for Summer!
It’s been such a busy week and I can’t believe it’s already the weekend. But I did get one project finished which I’m very excited about. It’s another step in the journey to making my own wardrobe. And it’s the first clothing pattern that I’ve made all by myself! Introducing Salme’s Kimono Sleeve Dress. It’s not the hardest clothing pattern in the world, very easy for a beginner, but I still love the fact that I made it myself. And I’m really happy to show it off!
I purchased the Kimono Sleeve Dress pattern from Salme’s website ages ago when I first started learning to sew. I’m a bit ashamed that it’s taken me this long to make it. But now that I’ve made my first one there are going to be many more to follow. The pattern is quite easy to read and it also has good illustrations to accompany the instructions. Probably the hardest part to making this pattern is attaching the elastic around the waist. Oh and if you are like me – trying to figure out which size patten to cut out.
I purchased the fabric I used for this dress many, many years ago. Actually I think I might have purchased it when I lived in the UK. So unfortunately I can’t tell you who the designer was or even where I purchased it. But I think it looks great in this style dress. I just love the teal colour against the vibrant small white flowers. It reminds me of the great Japanese Lawn fabrics that you can purchase from Spotlight, which would also look fantastic.
You’re probably wondering why I didn’t include the Kimono Sleeve Dress in my mid year update post last week? Well, firstly I was very close to finishing the dress so I figured you lovely people would get a chance to see it quite soon. Also the Salme website is currently unavailable and I’m not sure when the site will be back up and running. I’ve had a look around online and haven’t had any success finding the pattern anywhere else. Hopefully Salme’s website will be back soon and the pattern made available for purchase. I’ll let you know on my facebook page when it’s available again. Because I want to try some of there other patterns. Until then I will just have to make a few more Kimono Sleeve Dresses. Now I just have to wait for Summer!
