The perfect bag for travel
This week I want to share a project that I’m currently working on. It’s Swoon’s Sydney Crossbody Bag. Swoon make some lovely bag patterns and the instructions are always very detailed and accurate. Some of their patterns are targeted at the more advanced sewers. So make sure you pick a pattern for your skill level. If you haven’t checked out Swoon before I would definitely recommend taking a look. They even have some free patterns!
So when Spence and I decided to take our trip to Europe this year (I know how exciting!) I decided I needed a new travel bag. So why not make one? After a bit of searching for the perfect travel bag I settled on making the Sydney Crossbody Bag. This bag has a large front zipper pocket for our important travel documents and a large main section for all my flying necessities. It’s definitely a project for advanced sewers but I thought it was time for a bit of a challenge!
The fabric I’ve chosen is a beautiful Cloud 9 fabric called ‘Organic Whitehaven Confetti’ in Grey/Pink. I love the random look of this pattern with it’s small white squares. The lining fabric is a plain Prima Homespun in an Iron colour. I purchased both of these from my local Spotlight Store.
As you can see I’ve made some good progress. I’ve finished off the front of the bag – which was quite a challenge with all the different pockets. Particularly the expandable pockets, which were quite tricky to assemble. I think this is why the pattern is aimed at advanced sewers. I’ve also completed the strap which isn’t too difficult to put together. The next challenge to tackle on the Sydney Crossbody will be the construction of the gusset. So watch this space!
