Makery Card Wallet

Keeping things organised

This week I decided it was time to make a project from one of the many sewing and craft books that I have on my bookshelf. I wanted to make something simple and quick so I decided to make the ‘Card Wallet’ project from a book by Kate Smith called ‘Makery’. This book contains all sorts of projects from sewing clothes to making coasters and jewellery. If you like to try out a range of different craft projects it might be a good book for you. Even though I’ve had this book for ages it’s the first project that I’m trying. So I was pretty excited to get started!

Most of the projects in Makery seem to be designed with beginners in mind. But having said that there aren’t a lot of pictures so you might find it harder if you’re a visual learner. Another thing to watch out for are errors in the measurements (mainly incorrect conversions from centimetres to inches). I came across a couple in this project.

The Card Wallet took me no time at all to complete. It’s a really quick afternoon sewing project if you don’t have a lot of time. It has 4 card slots as well as two larger pockets. It’s also a great project for using up those scrap pieces of fabric. I’ve used some left over Cloud 9 fabric called ‘Bloomsbury’ in Turquoise. It’s such a pretty pattern!

The verdict? It’s a great little project but I think some improvements can be made. The Card Wallet is quite large considering it only has four card slots. I think you could definitely modify the measurements and make an extra card slot on each side. Or alternatively make the wallet slightly smaller. I’m also not a massive fan of being able to see the wrong sides of the fabric either (in the two large side pockets), but that’s just me. Next week I’m going to try the passport Case project in this book. With my holiday to Europe coming up I could use a new passport case!
