Catching the last sunny day
The cold weather seems to have arrived early this year. I’m not a fan of Winter myself and I’m always counting down the days until Summer arrives again. Last week we did have one sunny day, which gave me the opportunity to wear my new Vintage Inspired Skirt! It’s the perfect skirt to make if you are new to sewing. Plus it’s a free tutorial by Noodlehead.
Now, you will have all heard me talk about Noodlehead in the past. She is one of my favourite bag designers so I’ve made a few of her bags already (such as the Compass Bag). Well she also offers a range of free tutorials on her website, not only for bags but also for items around the home and clothing. The Vintage Inspired Skirt is one of those tutorials and when I saw it I knew I had to make one for myself.
The tutorial is easy to follow and aimed towards beginners. There are plenty of photos as well as clear instructions. You do need to do some maths to work out the measurements for the various pattern pieces. So double check your maths before you start cutting your fabric. You might also recognise the fabric I used for the skirt? It’s the same one I used for my PJ pants a couple of years ago. It’s such a lovely fabric! I can’t believe I still had some left.
The construction of the skirt is quite straight forward particularly if you have made gathers previously. There is also the option for adding pockets, which I decided to do, and a couple of options for installing the elastic.
It’s such a shame that Winter has arrived and I have to wait until next Summer to show off my Vintage Inspired Skirt. But now we have to stay indoors and limit social gatherings so I probably wouldn’t have the chance to wear it anyway. There hasn’t been a reason to get dressed up in a while. My Thai fisherman’s pants are getting a lot of use though! But I still can’t wait until I get the chance to wear my Vintage Inspired Skirt again.
