A few weeks ago was my niece’s 4th birthday so for the past few months I’ve been running around trying to find her the perfect birthday gift. I wasn’t all that successful. I find I come up with a few problems when buying gifts for my niece’s and nephew’s. Firstly there is such a large range of toys to begin with – too many options. Then it’s knowing what particular craze they are into at the moment – it seems to change so constantly. Lastly it’s trying to find something that they don’t already have. Last year for Christmas I had purchased a shirt for my nephew and on Christmas Day he came to lunch wearing the exact same shirt!
So this year I decided to make my niece’s birthday present. No need to worry about her already having it as it would be unique! I know that she loves cooking with her dad so I decided to sew her a little apron.
Originally I thought of using a character fabric like Toy Story but I came across this adorable fabric with foxes and couldn’t resist! It’s a cotton poplin that I found in the quilting section at Spotlight. The tutorial I used to make this apron was from an old edition of Making Magazine. Unfortunately they don’t publish this magazine anymore – a bit of a shame because they had some really good projects. But don’t worry there are heaps of free apron projects online so you can always find a pattern/tutorial to suit you.
This was the end result! I really love the colours in this apron with the green pocket and blue tie cord. Paired with this cute little cooking set I think I’m on a winner!
How lovely, a unique gift which she loved, I’m sure!
Yes it was a huge hit with Paige – she’s already been using it for her cooking!
