When Comfort Reins Supreme!

Anyone that knows me- knows I’ve been trying to build up my confidence with sewing clothes. If you sew, then you know how different the process can be between the various disciplines. The sewing part is the same but the processes and terminology can be different. Basically when it comes to clothes I’m a newbie so the Rio Wide Leg Pants was right up my alley!

The Rio Wide Leg Pants pattern is part of the Mocha range by ithinksew. I do love their clothing range. The style is very me and they tend to be slightly easier patterns. Ithinksew has changed quite a lot over the years. Its now become a place where a group of designers all create their own brands but under the one main brand.

I personally love this business model! It gives new designers the chance to make a name for themselves. Whilst cutting down the work needed to get there. Plus you, as a customer, get a huge range of different styles and patterns- from bags to clothes.

I’ve made quite a few ithinksew patterns in the past. Including the Wynne Dress, the Shiloh Blouse and the Brendan Backpack – just to name a few. So I knew what to expect from the pattern before starting my Rio Wide Leg Pants.

One of the reasons this pattern is easier for beginners? It comes with step by step instructions- including images. I’m a visual person so the more images the better. But it’s important to note that for this particular pattern there were some confusing steps.

For example the drawn images show the pockets top-stitched. Yet there’s no written instruction to do this. Also the instructions for attaching the waistband ask you to match up its seams with the side seams. Try as I might- this was impossible to achieve.

One thing it would be handy to remember for next time? I’m not blessed with long legs (yes I’m short 😂). It would save time (and fabric) to make adjustments to the length before cutting out the pieces.

All in all- I’m really happy with how my first pair of Rio Wide Leg Pants turned out. Although next time I’ll definitely make sure I top-stitch along the pockets. I think it was meant to be included but forgotten. And yes I’m definitely making another pair – they’re cut out and ready to sew!
