I love starting a new project…
So this week I started a new project – ithinksew’s Jeannie Bag. I purchased this pattern ages ago and added it to my to-do list (at the start of the year! I even mentioned it in an update post from February). Well it’s finally made it to the top of the project pile and I started making the Jeannie Bag this week. The thing I love about starting a new project is going through my fabric collection and picking the perfect fabric. I purchased this teal patterned fabric a while ago and I had just enough left for this project. I think it works really well!
When I start a new pattern I usually follow the pattern/instructions supplied by the designer. After this first version I might make some modifications for any future versions. But with this pattern I got a little bit more adventurous and modified the first Jeannie Bag that I’m making. I’ve added an extra inch to the height and width so the bag will be slightly larger. Because of this I’ve had to add extra width to the upper pieces, main gusset pieces and zipper panels. I’m hoping I’ve modified all the pieces I need to! It could turn into a bit of a disaster if I haven’t. I’ve also added an internal slip pocket and I’ve divided it into two. What can I say – I love a lot of pockets!
There are some challenging steps in this pattern. In particular the front pocket. It’s quite tricky to get it positioned correctly on the front of the bag. I also found the main gusset a bit of a challenge when trying to match up the three seams at point A. Of course this might be because I’ve been modifying the pattern.
Keep an eye out for the finished product. Now that I’ve started the Jeannie Bag I’m really excited to see how this bag turns out! I can see this becoming one of my many favourites. I’ve also got some other projects that I’ve almost completed that I can’t wait to share. What about you? Are you currently working on any projects at the moment? I’d love to hear what you are all up to!
