That’s my suitcase!
This week I’ve been preparing for my trip to Europe (yay!) so I’ve decided to make myself some luggage tags. I know it’s no longer necessary to attach your details to your bags. The tags printed by the airlines contain all the important information they need to know about luggage ownership and destinations. But I still find it really handy to have something unique on my bag so I can easily identify it. A luggage tag is a nice way to do this.
I did have a look around Pinterest for a luggage tag tutorial but didn’t find anything that I really liked. I figured it couldn’t be too hard to make my own so I researched luggage tag dimensions and got to work on a pattern. Once I started to think about the main parts of a luggage tag everything came together quite quickly. I love the inclusion of the key fob hardware – it not only looks stylish it is also extremely strong. You won’t have to worry about loosing your tag!
Since it’s a small project I was able to use some left over Amy Butler fabric I had. It’s called ‘Memoir’ in the colour Pacific from the ‘Alchemy’ collection. Unfortunately I purchased this quite a few years ago so it’s no longer available. But if you love this fabric you should check out Amy Butler’s website which is full of different fabrics, patterns and inspiration. She also releases a free magazine called Blossom which I just love scrolling through. So inspiring!
Overall I’m really happy with how my luggage tag has turned out. I’ve included a small pocket that can be used for personal details if I want. The use of leather for the strap adds a lot of style to the design and reminds me of antique luggage tags. If you’re interested in making your own tag and want me to put together a tutorial just let me know. I certainly think it will make my suitcase stand out amongst all the others!
