Handmade gifts always make the best gifts
I can’t believe it’s almost the middle of February already! Where has the last six weeks gone? I know where my time has gone lately. And unfortunately it was not spent in front of the sewing machine. It’s all those little jobs you put off to another time. You eventually have to deal with it. But now that I’ve completed some of those I can get on with some fun stuff! First of all I’ve been dying to show you all some of the handmade gifts I made for family and friends for Christmas!
I’ll start with the children because they are always so much fun to sew for. Plus, I know they don’t already have it. To me that’s one of the biggest problems solved. Coming up with new projects to make for them that they will love, is another. I had already decided to make some Mini Minimalist Wallets for friends, when I came up with the idea of making them for my niece’s. And then I thought why not make a less girlie version for the boys? Kids just love to have a wallet or purse to keep their money in.
The Mini Minimalist Wallet is a pattern by Noodlehead. Now, some of you may remember my previous post on the Minimalist Wallet, so I won’t bore you all with the details again. Needless to say, I absolutely love this pattern. It is such a joy to sew and a great way to use up scrap fabrics! It meant I could make Kylah and Paige’s wallets out of fabric left over from the bags I made them. And for Harrison I was able to use some St.Kilda fabric I had left over from some masks I made. For my other nephew’s I found this really adorable quilting fabric from Spotlight called ‘Formula 1’. It allowed me to introduced very vibrant colours for the linings which I just love.
I was also very happy with how my friends’ mini Minimalist Wallets turned out. With Ginta’s I was able to use the left over fabric from making her masks. I only had the smallest amount left but I knew that she would love it because she supplied the fabric herself! I made the other two wallets with some beautiful Cloud 9 fabric called ‘Tribal: Faraway Places’. I’ve actually kept one of these ones for myself.
The last handmade gift to show off is another firm favourite of mine – the Canvas Pencil Pouch by Noodlehead. I’ve made a few of these already for the older children and you can read all about them here. This is another extra large size pencil pouch for my beautiful nephew Eddie. I purchased this cotton fabric, called ‘Dumpers’ online from Spotlight. To make it extra special I added some iron-on embroidered lettering from Etsy.
There’s definitely no doubt in my mind that handmade gifts make the best gifts! Every year I spend many months getting all my presents ready for Christmas. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I’m already thinking about this years handmade gifts. I suppose there’s nothing wrong with being prepared. I hope you all enjoyed seeing all the goodies I made. It might inspire you to make a handmade gift for someone special.
