Gifts for Europe
Whenever we plan a trip overseas it’s always based around seeing our family and friends. This years trip was no exception. So I always like to make something small to give as gifts for having us. And it’s nice if it can have an Aussie flavour! Since space and time was limited I decided to make some Aussie themed dishtowels. I just love the end result!
There’s a lot of free tutorials online for making dishtowels. They are a quick and easy sew – making them perfect for beginner sewers. I made my Aussie themed dishtowels following Purl Soho’s free ‘Classic Mitered Corner Dishtowels’ tutorial. It’s one I’ve used before so it’s tried and tested.
Although cotton isn’t quite as absorbent as linen- I just couldn’t walk past these beautiful Jocelyn Proust fabrics. Her work is a celebration of Australian fauna and flora – with inspiration taken from nature. Bold colours and prints that really make a statement!
The Classic Mitered Corner Dishtowels aren’t overly complicated to make. So it’s a great project for even the newest sewers. Don’t know what a mitered corner is? This tutorial includes a video explaining how to make a mitered corner. A very handy skill to know – particularly if you want to make quilts. You can also find information on how to sew mitered corners in my Hanky tutorial.
All in all I was very happy with the end result! I also really enjoyed making my Aussie Themed Dishtowels. Sometimes its nice and therapeutic to make a simple project. And they ticked all the boxes for taking overseas. Plus my family absolutely loved them!
